My birthday at California Adventure

Man, J and I are so spoiled now. We haven't been to Disney for almost a month and we have major withdrawals! Unfortunately, we won't be renewing our annual passes come March so we're trying to fit in as much Disney as we can before then!

California Adventure has been undergoing a lot of renovations lately making room for Cars Land and the new entrance plaza so it's been difficult to maneuver around the park. We haven't spent much time here because of it. I've been itching to ride Tower of Terror lately so Sunday I got my chance!

J took me clothes shopping for my birthday so I wore some new items:

I finally got a new camera! My Dad was nice enough to help me out considerably with a gift card to Best Buy where I purchased the Nikon COOLPIX S8200 digital camera. I'll let the reviews on Amazon speak for themselves. So far it's been a pleasure to shoot with! I talk a little about it on my Christmas 2011 Haul video:

I decided to practice a little on kitty photos. If you leave any box/bag empty out, Tango will jump into it right away.

I got this camera for $100 off retail! What a steal! J was also nice enough to buy me a 4G memory card. I'm still trying to get a hang of the all the different settings but so far I adore it.

Since I'm in a picture taking mood now, is there anything you would like to see a pic of from my place? Keep it clean, lol.

Fashion District Los Angeles Mini-Guide

One of my favorite places in Los Angeles is the Fashion District in Downtown. There are amazing bargains to be had on clothing, accessories, handbags, fabric and notions. It's THE must stop place for any costumer or designer.

Ciel and I took the lovely Emmi down here for the first time on Saturday and had a blast! I needed to purchase some fabric for my WonderCon costume (!) and wanted to buy more $1 rings from my favorite "ring guy".

What I wore, well minus the boots. Downtown shopping is sneaker territory! My boyfriend said I looked like a Lisa Frank character, fine by me!

My tips for shopping in the Fashion District:

1. Bring cash, most places don't accept cards and you'll typically get a better deal if you pay with cash.
2. Do not park at a meter unless you're going to be 30 minutes or less. The meters charge absurdly high prices. Just pay $3 to park at a lot. My favorite lot is on Maple at Wall.
3. It's best to go during the week and earlier in the day if you can. It gets hella hot and hella crowded. Most shops close early around 4 or 5pm.
4. Try the "alley dog" at least once, get a lot of napkins. It's a bacon wrapped hotdog piled high with avocado and pico de gallo.
5. Bring a backpack or shopper tote for all your purchases. BE GREEN!
6. Don't be afraid to haggle. Worst case the vendor says no, best case? You get an amazing deal!
7. Don't bring a bulky purse and wear comfortable shoes. You'll be weaving through a lot of people and covering a lot of ground. Dress accordingly.
8. Don't be afraid to explore! There are a lot of shops and some are better than others but...
9. Be alert. There are some sketchy people in this part of town. Be smart and stay in populated, well lit areas and if a street looks sketchy don't go down it.

Now that I've given some tips, here are some pictures to help you shop.

My favorite place to buy accessories is on the corner of Maple/Olympic. Most all their items are $1. A really nice Asian family owns this place. Usually the husband is outside. He'll give you a ring box to store all your $1 rings in. Well at least he gives me one because I buy at least 5 every time I go, haha.

I usually avoid Santee Alley (look for the yellow banner hanging above the alley) because it's so congested...

but then you see booths like this and all is forgotten. Everything in this pic was $1.

The alley has apparel, shoes (most $20), handbags, and accessories. Just ignore all the people yelling at you to shop at their place and say simple no thank yous to the overly helpful shoe people. They are super aggressive albeit nice.

OK, now onto fabric! This is my fave place, it's also at Maple/Wall. Looks like they have expanded recently into the next shop over. If you need fur this is THE place to get it, stupid cheap. I also get my stretch vinyl here for $5 a yard. Same stuff is like $13 a yard at Joann's.

What up Superman?! They also have a faux fur remnant bin which is awesome if you just need a little bit to accent your costume.

Ok now for you crafters, this is a great place to buy rhinestones, little charms, fasteners etc. It's predominately for Quinceañera stuff but there is a ton of adorable stuff here for cutesy crafts. Lolita and fairy-kei fans, that means you!

This store is also next to Michael Levine which also has cheap fabric finds, notions, buttons etc. Michael Levin's is an actual store and not a stall. I do go here but you can typically find cheaper finds at the stalls. I think most people just like coming here because you don't really have to dig around. It's great for one stop shopping if you're in a hurry. They have both home fabrics, next to Maple craft, and apparel fabrics across the street.

Keep in mind this barely scratches the surface of the shops down here. There are tons. I encourage to explore and find YOUR favorite shops. Have fun!

I got my nose pierced and Star Wars shenanigans

This has been years in the making. My family is pretty conservative and heavily against tattoos and piercings. It took them quite a while to even get used my unaturally red hair. However, I'm well into my twenties and I'm finally letting go of caring what my family or others think. Friday, Feb 3rd was my birthday and thought it was the perfect opportunity to go through with this.

I chose Freak Chic piercing parlor in West Hollywood. Firstly, they have glowing yelp reviews and secondly I can walk to them from my work, haha.

Pretty obsessed with my new Pokemon Diamond and Pearl markers. I LOVE TO COLOR, OK?

It actually hurt a lot less than I expected. My advice? Don't look too much into piercing before you do it. Everyone handles pain differently. No one can judge how painful it will be for you. All I can say is that process at Freak Chic was extremely easy and quick. Allen, my piercer was super accommodating and told me to stay away from the internet for any questions. I was given both his email and cell to call with any issues. I highly recommend them.

After getting pierced J and I headed downtown to a Brisk Iced Tea event to celebrate The Phantom Menace in 3D. There was Star Wars artwork on display, free drinks, games, and a couple cosplayers.

Also, did you all notice my new layout?! I'm pretty excited about it. J made the Scott Pilgrim inspired sprite of me. I'll be adding more tweaks here and there but for now I'm pretty happy with it.

Star Tours recently underwent a huge overhaul and it's popularity has risen quite a bit. They carry quite a large stock of Star Wars merchandise now.

Most of the shirts here are for women but I threw in some pictures of some men's tees I thought were cool too. All the tees are roughly between $25-$30. These are the t-shirts you're looking for...

My open letter to AT&T/Asurion Phone Insurance

I'm going to deter from my normal style of blog posts for a moment because this experience needs to be shared with anyone paying AT&T for phone insurance or anyone who needs to go through phoneclaim.com.

I have never been so frustrated and dissatisfied with a company's customer service. Especially a service I pay extra for monthly. AT&T does not openly list a contact email, so I am writing this open letter to AT&T/Asurion Phone Insurance. I encourage you to share this and be warned.

My brand-new iPhone 4s was stolen from my work place early December 2011. The very same evening it was stolen I went to my local AT&T store to inquire about steps to replace it. The rep. at the store gave me the number for Asurion. I promptly called and was told by automated message that I could file my claim online at phoneclaim.com. I immediately went online to file my claim. After entering my information the page timed-out and I was told my claim could not be processed at this time. I was told to call the very same number above. I attempted to file again using a different browser and was given the same error message. So the nonsense begins...

I was able to download all the necessary claim forms from the phoneclaim website. I filled them out, paid $12 at a notary public to have them notarized, and paid another $9 to have them faxed over to Asurion.

A few days pass. Let it be said that Asurion advertises that after your forms are submitted they will contact you within 2 days time. I was never contacted after 4 days. I went online to "track my claim". I again entered all my information and got the same error message as above. So I called the number again and the representative told me they didn't receive a phone bill from me and could not read my license. No one had contacted me to tell me this. I promptly scanned in and this time uploaded the images to their website for review. Another three days pass and still no word from Asurion.

I call for a third time. This time the rep. tells me that they couldn't read my phone bill and to resend it. Again no one had told me. So open claims sit in their "inbox" indefinitely until the customer calls and inquires?

I printed out my recent phone bill and this time had my boyfriend fax it from his work. Another couple days pass and I get an automated phone call from Asurion telling me I need to agree to pay $199 (to be added to my next bill) to receive my replacement phone. I agree, I can't remember if I called or used the website for this step. Shortly after agreeing to pay the $199 I received another automated message telling me my new unit had been sent out.

I receive my replacement unit and followed the instructions to activate it only to find out, it doesn't work. The Asurion office is closed for the day so I call the following morning. The rep. tells me that the unit sent to me was brand-new and not a refurbished one. There is a disclaimer on the packing slip telling me it's possible to receive a refurbished unit. Keep in mind my stolen unit was barely 1 week old. She then tells me that they will send me another unit but it cannot be sent to my home address due to theft issues.

I must pick up the new unit from a Fed Ex location. The Fed Ex location they send my phone to is a 30 minute drive from my house. There are plenty of Fed Ex locations closer to my house. Why they send me out of the way is beyond me. The rep. asks for my email address, the one they had on file was my old email. I give the rep my new email address.

Another couple days pass and still no word on my replacement unit. I call again (5th call) to inquire about the status of my phone. The rep. tells me I'll be emailed when my phone is ready for pick-up. I confirm that they have my correct email again. They don't. I again give them my updated email and have the rep. read it back me to confirm it's correct. Another two days pass and still no email or phone call. I go online to phoneclaim.com and "track my claim". There is a tracking number available. It tells me my phone is "being held for recipient pickup". Twice I was told I would be emailed with tracking information. I was never emailed or called.

I pick up my new unit and follow instructions to activate it. AT&T says you can easily activate it online. I follow the link provided on the instruction sheet, it doesn't work. I try it in another browser, doesn't work. I call AT&T customer service and finally get it activated. I will say the rep. from AT&T who assisted me was accommodating and patient. She called and texted me to make sure the phone worked.

Finally, January 5th, 2012 I have a working iPhone 4. I filed my claim December 7th, 2011.

The replacement phone was $199, the notary $12, the first fax to Asurion $9, making that a grand total of $220 spent to get a replacement phone that I pay insurance on.

I have been paying $6 a month for phone insurance for at least 5 years. I have been with AT&T Wireless for 10+ years. AT&T is also my Internet provider. I can't believe how many hoops I had to jump through to get a new phone. I had to get a replacement phone a couple years ago after my current one died. I called and spoke to an AT&T rep, answered a few questions about my phone and was sent a new unit within a week. No issues and it was overall an easy process.

I hope no one else has to go through this nonsense. I will be moving to Verizon once my contract expires.

I am so excited to make this post! A little over a month ago I was asked to put together another fashion show this time for Tune in Tokyo and Cherry Jelly Productions' December event at Royal/T. The event featured awesome tunes, both live and by DJ, a cosplay fashion show, vendors, and video games. Thank you to everyone who attended, it was a great turn out!

SPANK! x Chubby Bunny Sweet Streets event

Gosh, I've missed two Geek Chic Mondays in a row now! I'm so sorry for the lack of posts lately. I finally had a day off today after 10 days in a row of work. Whew! I'm back though!

This past weekend I attended the SPANK! x Chubby Bunny x Sweet Streets show at WWA Gallery in Culver City. What a turnout! Despite the rainy weather lots of people came out to celebrate everything 80s/pastel/cute! The exhibit runs until December 23rd so if you're in the Los Angeles area be sure to check it out!

I couldn't get there until after the fashion show unfortunately but thankfully the models were still decked out in their show outfits when I arrived.

DesignerCon 2011 and Kamen Rider 40th Anniversary Art Show

I did not make it out to Comikaze this past weekend but it's not without a good excuse! Instead, I was at DesignerCon. It was my first time attending and I really enjoyed myself. If you're a fan of designer toys, vinyl figures, and art it's a great con!

Though I was working most of it I did manage to grab some pics of cool stuff!

After DCon, J and I headed to Little Tokyo to check out the KAMEN RIDER VS SUPER SENTAI Anniversaries Tribute Exhibition. We were starving so the first order of business was to get some ramen! I used to be a big fan of Orochon but I feel like their quality has gone down since they were on Food Network. We always seem to get the worst service too. :(

So instead we tried a ramen place downstairs called Chin-ma-ya which was delicious!! It was packed but well worth the wait.

Then it was off to the exhibit! Apologies for not knowing the artist's for these pieces. I encourage you to visit the show which runs until November 13th at the JACCC.

Ended our evening with gelato at Scoops! Their flavors change DAILY so it's always a tasty adventure each time you visit. It's not just vanilla or chocolate but flavors like brown bread, sweet corn and bacon, and banana peanut butter just to name a few.

This week's geek chic Monday is a very special one. I can finally introduce the official Geeky Glamorous necklace!

I designed these video game controller necklaces! They are made from acrylic and are strung on a metal chain. They are available in two colorways, either pink x white or red x black.

Here's me rockin' the red and black version.

Currently they are available in store at JapanLA (you can place a phone order with them). I will also be selling these at Designer Con and Pacific Media Expo in the coming weeks for $20 each.

San-X Party at JapanLA

Over the weekend at JapanLA was a Rilakkuma x Sentimental Circus Prize Party. There was free cotton candy, fries from Frysmith truck, a raffle, and of adorable merchandise!

I made some decorations for the window including pennants and giant circus themed props.

Lots of adorable circus themed lolitas were there assisting.

I of course wore Star Night Theater to match the circus theme. I am taller than Rilakkuma. -.-;

Tune in Tokyo Back to School and some recents "gets"

Please forgive how haphazard this post is. I've been meaning to post these pictures for a while and am finally getting a spare moment to share.

Firstly, I attended Tune in Tokyo's Back to School event a few weeks back. I am always looking for an excuse to rock my Hogwarts gear so this seemed like a perfect opportunity. A few other Harry Potter fans joined me!

I loved this event, it was the first time there were vendors set up and there were so many cute items for sale. Hopefully I can sell at the next event!

After weeks of blockout dates my Disneyland pass is good again! I literally went back to the park the first day I could. I missed it so much, I can't believe how much has changed in just a couple months. California Adventure looks like a totally different park! I thoroughly enjoyed the new Star Tours! I will be the rebel spy one of these days...

Last weekend, despite the disgusting 90ºF temperature I made it out to the Tokidoki sample sale. I waited three hours despite getting there right when it opened...was it worth it? Almost. I did get some great deals but nothing I couldn't live without. They were only letting 50 people in at a time and there weren't any handbags or jewelry which was pretty disappointing. It was their first time doing a sample sale however so here's hoping the next one has more offerings and is at a larger location.

I was really excited to finally get a Marvel x TD tee ($10), polka dot cat tee ($10), and my favorite item an Adios leopard print sweater ($20). Most everything for women was a size small but thankfully TD shirts are on the longer side so it worked out. Thank you Tango for walking right into my shot.

When I got home from work the other day J surprised me with the second and third books in the Mass Effect series. YAY for being a nerd girl and having an equally nerdy boyfriend!

Comic Con 2011 Sunday

You'll have to forgive how few pictures are contained in this post. I was only able to get a badge for Sunday at SDCC and was too excited/busy waiting in lines to do much picture taking.

J, myself, Ciel, and her bf got to San Diego around 9 a.m. Sunday morning and thankfully were able to find parking in a lot relatively close to the convention center. We paid $30 for 9 hours! The mall was charging a daily rate of $60...unbelievable.

A good time at Comic Con you will have.

Firstly, we picked up our badges which by far was the easiest, quickest badge pickup I have ever experienced. Thank you CC staff for accommodating your attendees with little to no wait time so we can spend more money in the dealer's hall, lol.

That's ok I will have to get one of these Monster High dolls instead. I love this series so much, super funky and creative if you ask me.

We promptly entered the exhibit hall and did our best to collect as much swag as possible and check out lots of the exclusive figures from various companies. I was most excited to visit Humberto Ramos' table in at Artist Alley. Ramos has been my favorite comic book artist for some time now and I was so excited to pick up his new book, Fairyquest-Outlaws. I had purchased the art book for the series back in 2009 and was so excited to finally read the comic! It's a gorgeous, full color, 56 page story. Ramos was kind enough to sign the book for me as well.

The most exciting experience for me however was visiting the BioWare set-up at the Hilton hotel. Mass Effect 3, The Old Republic, and Dragon Age: Legacy DLC were all playable. We waited almost three hours to play ME3. >.< Everyone working the booth was super friendly though and gave us lots of goodies. I won the first Mass Effect book (YEAAAH!) for answering a trivia question, got some Old Republic temporary tats, N7 tats, a customized dog tag, a Normandy ship XBOX Live avatar accessory, and an awesome achievement medal after I finished the demo. Which for the record, was awesome. I CANNOT WAIT FOR MASS EFFECT 3. *__________*

Facebook fans were "liking" certain models for default female Shepard character and this model had the most votes. Not my first pick, I think she doesn't look rugged or old enough tbh.

Since most of our day was eaten up by waiting in line for ME3 we headed back to the exhibit hall to see what kind of comic deals could be had.

Hello Kitty x Sephora Launch in Hollywood

Last Thursday, myself and seven other pink/black themed lolitas worked the launch of the new Hello Kitty x Sephora Graffiti line! We passed out signed 8x10s of Hello Kitty, Hello Kitty shaped water bottles, and delicious strawberry cookies! It was a lot of fun! There were not one, but two photobooths set up. One offered a glossy 8 x 10 printout in front of one of the amazing backdrops done by artist, Pose and the other was an actual booth that had 4 tiny pictures.

The event offered free mini-makeovers utilizing the new line and those that spent $50 or more on the new products received a Chubby Bunny HK collab bow and a wristband to meet Hello Kitty's head designer, Yuko Yamaguchi. She's wearing Emily Temple Cute!

Harry Potter Art Show at Gallery Nucleus

A couple weeks ago, just in time for Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra hosted a Harry Potter themed art show. J and I hurried over there and were greeted with a massive line! I don't think the gallery even anticipated so many people. The event was scheduled to end at 11pm but the staff graciously stayed open late to make sure everyone in line got the see the exhibit. We waited in line for 2 plus hours! :O

In addition to the huge display of artwork there was also a photo booth, Bertie Bott's jellybean tasting, butterbeer, and raffle giveaways. We were were sorted into houses upon arrival and I got Ravenclaw, yay!

Those who dressed in costume got into the event free of charge. They stamped us with the dark mark upon arrival. I have to admit, this would make a badass tattoo.

I'm really into paper art, so I was in awe of these gorgeous pieces by artist, Brittney Lee.

Anime Expo Part II w/ a splash of AM2

Sunday of 4th of July weekend Ciel and I headed out to the Anaheim Convention Center to sell at the Artist's Alley at AM2. All the convention events were contained to one hall which was convenient so we got to see most everything while seated at our table. However, one really irritating factor was having a performance stage right next to the AA. Neither Ciel nor myself could really communicate with our customers. It was hard to greet people and complete simple transactions without yelling. I was also pretty bummed that some of the exhibitors packed up early, Angelic Pretty I'm looking at you, so we weren't able to do much shopping. T___T

Our table, Ciel is dressed as Angry and I was Hangry of h.NAOTO but we're goobers and forgot to take pictures of ourselves.

I was really impressed with how personable the AM2 staff was. One staffer brought us snacks and water midway through the day (!) and another staff member gave us a credit card swiper we can plug into our phone. How convenient! Thanks to that staffer Ame Hoshi may accept credit cards as payment at future cons.

Anime Expo 2011 - Part I

Whew, I'm finally able to sit down and blog about 4th of July weekend. It was INSANE. Today was my first day off in almost two weeks! It was well worth it though, I had a fantastic time.

Saturday at Anime Expo I dressed up as Sandplay - Miku. You may remember last year I was Sandplay - Luka. My friends and I all swapped costumes or put together new ones so we could have a Sandplay group. I've always wanted to be Miku but chose Luka previously because she's the tallest Vocaloid. xD

Thank goodness for the Miku branded Toyota Corollas they had on exhibit. They made for an excellent meeting spot!

No desire to own a Corolla, until now. Excellent marketing is excellent.

I was lucky enough to be featured in one of FastMatt's videos. I show up at 1:13. :3 I really like his editing and song choice. The Portal cosplayer right before me is amazing!

After spending an exhausting day in our costumes it was time to change and go to the Miku concert A.K.A. Mikunopolis! Unfortunately it was assigned seating so I wasn't able to sit with Ciel and her b/f but that wasn't too bad of a deal, I was just excited to be there!

They had a short para para/dance opening gig and then Miku appeared. I have never been to such a loud concert in my life. I've been to my share of "teeny-bopper" concerts but HOLY CRAP the audience was loud. Lots of excited people! I highlighted the screen that Miku and the other Vocaloids are projected onto.

The concert was really amazing. Miku may be a 3d hologram but there was a real band including string orchestra, guitarist, bassist, and drummer. Miku also had several costume changes and both the twins and Luka came out for a few numbers. ^^

Pictures were not allowed during the Vocaloid performance but there are some on youtube if you're interested. ^^ I also just found out they also sell a DVD of the Japanese concert!!

Ciel and I had to duck out of the concert early so we could get ready for the Vocaloid themed fashion show at Club Nokia! A little under two weeks before Anime Expo I was recruited, with help from Olivia, to put together a fashion show for Tune in Tokyo's event at Club Nokia. The event was scheduled to start after the Miku concert so I thought it was only appropriate to have the fashion show be Vocaloid inspired! The models' wardrobe was provided by the wonderful downtown store, QPop and featured pieces by Super Lovers, Sex Pot Revenge, Algonquins, and others. Thanks Ginger for letting me swipe some pics from you!

Anime Expo and AM2 this week!

Whew this week is going to be insane! I still can't believe both AX and AM2 fall on the same weekend but that's a story for another time. What am I here to blog about is many of the exciting activities I'll be attending in the next few days.

Firstly, I managed to get a ticket for the Vocaloid concert occurring at AX on Saturday! I had seen the show on youtube when it played in Japan and to see it here, live, in the states is a real treat. Myself, Ciel, and our friend Holly will all be cosplaying Vocaloid characters that day to celebrate.

Here's a clip of Miku performing "World is Mine" in Japan. Haters gonna hate on "CG Performers" but I for one am super excited to see this. Someone buy me a leek glowstick, stat.

After the concert is an after party at Club Nokia hosted by Anime Expo and Tune in Tokyo! There will be a Vocaloid themed fashion show with apparel being provided by QPop in Little Tokyo. Band Dig Jelly and singer Stephanie Yanez will be performing. I hope those of you with AX badges will join us!

Sunday will be AM2 day for Ciel and I. Thanks to the lovely Lauren of Dearie, we will be selling at their Artist's Alley! We'll have all the goodies we had from Fanime plus some new merchandise. I hope you will come visit us! We also now have a Facebook page for Ame Hoshi, please "like" us!

Fairytale themed So. Cal Lolita Picnic and Swap Meet

Saturday, July 18th myself and Oli hosted a lolita picnic/swap meet at Clark Regional Park in Buena Park, CA. It was quite the turn-out! For those of you that attended, thank you so much! Thank you everyone who brought food to share (what a massive buffet!), and of course a huge thank you to all our sponsors for their generous donations. I know the winners of all the games and raffles were very happy.

After the picnic we celebrated Ciel's birthday at Downtown Disney. I had someone call me Cruella Devill. Ahaha, amazing. We enjoyed dinner at Catal, it was delicious! The patio seating was really nice and intimate. We even had a view of the fireworks during our meal.

Electronic Entertainment Expo a.k.a. E3 report

A couple weeks ago was the E3 event at the Los Angeles convention center. For those of you who are unfamiliar E3 is a video game industry only event where developers and publishers come out to exhibit what they've been working on for the past year. I was most excited to hear about what BioWare's been up to for The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3 *swoon*.

Only those from the press and retailers were allowed in. T____________T

I spent most of my time at the Disney booth. They had Disney animators drawing any character you wanted, a cafe with FREE coffee drinks, photobooth, and of course plenty of video game demos. I took a whirl on Disneyland Kinect, CARS racing, and Disney Universe. Disneyland Kinect captured the essence of the park really well. You can walk around the park with your customized avatar meeting and greeting characters and then enter attractions to play games by yourself or with a buddy. CARs racing was a pretty basic "Mario Kart style" racer. Disney Universe however is something I will definitely be purchasing! It plays very similarly to the LEGO games but will actually be an online experience! It supports up to four player co-op and has a huge array of character costumes. I played as Alice and my demonstrator was The Mad Hatter.

I didn't play many other games unfortunately because the lines were ridiculously long. I mostly caught up with friends and collected various swag items.

Gears of War 3 had a massive line and a massive display behind the XBOX booth.

Square-Enix always has awesome merchandise on display. I'm loving the FF13 necklaces!

I really loved these Square-Enix postcards/bookmarks. The back featured the title and a QR code to download information about the title.

Late 2011 is going to have some amazing releases! F.Y.I. for those of you in the U.S., McDonald's has Pokemon toys currently. You do not have to buy a Happy Meal to get the toy. It costs around $1 to buy the toy separately. I may have picked up a few... ;)

Fanime Lolita Panel and Fashion Show

Sunday at Fanime was the Lolita Panel and Fashion Show. I was one of the panel hostesses and it was my first time hosting a panel. It was a lot of fun! I was a bit nervous/anxious but I think it went really well. I was the only host not from the Northern California area so it was my first time meeting many of the Nor. Cal lolitas.

I decided to go with a sweet/country themed coordinate.

There were so many Touko/Hilda cosplayers at Fanime, hory crap. I attempted to go to the Pokemon gathering but it was too intense. There were so many people crammed into too tiny a space. I still managed to get some great pics with fellow Pokenerds though.

Fanime 2011 - Artist Alley report

I'm back from Fanime! Both Ciel and I kept super busy throughout the course of the con. We sold at the Artist's Alley all four days, cosplayed, and participated in the Lolita Fashion Show and Panel. I totally have post-con depression. u__u

This was our first time selling at an artist's alley and I'm so glad we did! Though travel expenses took a large chunk out of our wallets it was nice to recover some of it through AA. I'll be excited to see how successful we are at a local convention and perhaps at one with more of a lolita presence.

We arrived in San Jose Thursday afternoon after a super smooth drive from Los Angeles. We definitely had to play luggage Tetris to get all our stuff to fit in the car though. @_@;

First order of business was picking up our badges. The line for pre-registration pick-up was an atrocity. We got in line at 5:20 p.m. and got our badges at 8 p.m. For some reason they also never found J's so he had some dinky paper all weekend instead of the plastic card badge. ; ; The registration seemed super understaffed, there were 8 pick up lines and hundreds of people waiting.

At least with that many nerds in one place there are mad amounts of people to play Pokemon with! xD

Friday was the official start of the convention and we got to set up our AA table!

Club Nintendo and revving for Fanime

I was so excited to receive a package from Nintendo last week! Initially, the Club Nintendo incentive program was only available in Japan but a couple years ago they brought it to the states! Basically, you earn coins for every Nintendo game or accessory you buy and you can spend those coins on special Nintendo products. I've been eying this particular item for a while now...

What could it be?

A DS game holder with Mario hat design! It comfortably holds about seven games. I love it! It goes well with my 1-up coin bank~

I've been pretty busy scrambling to get stuff done for Fanime including putting together accessories for my lolita panel outfit. I'm anxious about the panel, I hope guests leave it feeling informed and less intimidated. I know lolita fashion can be daunting to get into.

I'm putting together a strawberry/country themed coord. I found the boater hat at Ross (!) for $10 which I customized with strawberries I made from fleece and some daisies. The basket I found at Goodwill for $2.99 and painted red and made the front motif to match the hat.

Also for Fanime, specifically for our Artist's Alley table, I made this display unit. The frame started out black which I painted with pink and silver paint. I removed the glass and covered foam sheets with fabric and then stuck pins in it. This way we can hang our phone charms instead of laying them on the table. Super easy for under $15.

Lastly, when Emmi and I had lunch the other day she gifted me Hello Kitty Macaroni! This is a perfect portion for one person and comes with a sticker. It doesn't come with any cheese or other sauce but the noodles are adorable on their own.

I have been a bad blogger, lately I have been forgetting to take photos at the events I've been attending. I assure you it's not me being lazy, I think I'm just getting distracted. ^^; I vow to change that though!

Last week I took some time out to enjoy an amazingly delicious lunch at Tender Greens with the lovely Miss Emmi. They specialize in salads, hence the name, and I indulged in their BBQ chicken salad and Emmi got the grilled steak salad. Both were delightful! They also have a tasty drink selection, Emmi opted for the mint lemonade and I had the hibiscus iced tea. For the record, I love hibiscus tea. Any place that serves it is a friend of mine, hah!

Nothing quite like Yogurtland on a 85ºF day. I'm currently addicted to their original tart flavor with strawberries and fruity pebbles. :3

I also got a chance to meet the lovely Sara Mari last week. She is so sweet! I wasn't able to meet-up with her + DIAMOND Circle until later in the day but it was still a pleasure to meet her. You'll have to forgive my lazy outfit and make-up, I had just come from a job interview. ; ;

Saturday, in celebration of Michelle's Bday, was the Chubby Bunny Bunnies and Bows party at JapanLA. What a turnout! Kudos to you Michelle! If I wasn't saving for Fanime I would have been all over those bows. You did an amazing job decorating and designing. My favorite art pieces from the show:

New layout and Fanime Artist Alley Update

Whew, it's always so exhausting putting together a new layout. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, do you guys like? The photo is from a Vocaloid (Song - Magnet) cosplay photoshoot Ciel and I did a while back. I love my headset. :3 The one year "blogaversary" of this blog is coming up in May so I thought it was only fitting to start fresh with a new layout! I will be hosting a giveaway for that, so stay tuned!

Ciel and I received some very exciting news today that we will selling at the Artist's Alley at Fanime 2011! A friend of mine was not able to attend and graciously contacted the Fanime staff to give her table to us. We are thrilled! We weren't able to get a table through the lottery so we had nearly given up.

We will be selling hand-made hair accessories, phone straps, and felt character pins. Here's just a sample of what we've been working on the past couple of months. If you are planning on attending I hope you will come visit our table. Our company name is Ame Hoshi and means "star candy" in Japanese. We also started uploading some items for purchase at our Etsy shop.

Also, I mentioned this in my last post, but the Fanime Lolita Panel is still seeking models for the fashion show portion of our panel. Our panel time is Sunday at 6pm. Rilakkuma Mall Walk

This past Saturday myself and five other Rilakkuma themed lolitas walked around a couple Los Angeles malls promoting the relax bear. We were decked out in Rilakkuma bags, phone straps, ID cases, and plush. We hit up The Beverly Center, Robertson Blvd., The Santa Monica Place mall, the 3rd St. Promenade, and Santa Monica Pier. My feet were hurting at the end of the day. T__T It was a lot of fun though! People seemed really excited, and fascinated, by our outfits.

Renaissance Pleasure Faire 2011

Japan Benefit Fashion Show

Last night, thanks to the hard work and dedication of Julie Doll, a bunch of local lolitas participated in a fashion show in Fullerton, California. The show was part of a fundraiser to raise money for the Japan quake and though there were a few hiccups with the sound, I think we rocked the stage! Most sub-styles of lolita were represented with 18 models participating! Also, long time no post from me, my apologies! ; ;

Summer Lolita Meet-Up - June 11th, 2011

On Wednesday I got together with Oli A.K.A. lemontree11 to scope out a potential location for our upcoming lolita meet-up in June! We are very excited for this event and hope that many of you who are either local to So.Cal or will be in the area at the time, will be able to come! We're working hard to make this a worthwhile summer gathering. ^^

On a happier note, J and I went to Disneyland last weekend! The day started off kind of rocky because someone hit and run my car while I was sleeping Saturday night. ; ; No note and no witnesses, quite the bummer. Karma!

We decided to purchase annual passes for Disneyland finally. It's really nice that they offer monthly payment plans so the cost doesn't seem so extreme. The passes aren't cheap. :x The option to hop parks, save money on dining, and have parking included was too good to pass up. It also helps that so many of our friends have passes too, yay!

Guess who got a Duffy bear? This isn't the full size bear, he's a purse!

I was so happy that they reopened the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk through story. This was closed after 9/11 and reopened a year or two ago. I finally remembered to go.

Nightmare Before Christmas moto-style sweatshirt? YES PLEASE.

The Little Mermaid ride at California Adventure can't open fast enough. Her sisters are sculpted into the facade.

For World of Color, J and I decided it was best to purchase a dining experience that included a premiere viewing ticket. For $39.99 you get unlimited appetizers (we chose the veggie, cheese, salad option), an entree, and a massive dessert plate. We took a lot home, haha. If it's your first time viewing I highly recommend this meal. I think it was well worth the value. We had an amazing viewing area for the show.

Gothic Lolita Wigs Review and Pics!

In my last post, I mentioned that I had won a wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs. I finally got a chance to wear it out this past weekend! As much as I love a lot of their candy colored wigs I was so happy to receive this chestnut color instead. I think it's much more versatile in coordinating.

This entire wig is one piece. Typically ponytail wigs include a base wig and two clip-on ponytails. The ponytails for this are actually attached to the main wig meaning less weight on your head. As much as I love this style though it's hard to wear a headband. I had to pin my usagimimi to the top of my head. Not a big deal though.

The quality is really nice and I was assured that the wig can be washed and will retain it's curls. Please visit their facebook page to learn more.

Year of the Rabbit Lolita Tea Party

Wednesday night Tune in Tokyo celebrated their anniversary with a rabbit themed lolita party at Royal/T. Initially I was going to wear my Cherry Berry Bunny dress but I thought I'd do something unexpected and try magician lolita bunny!

Pokemon BxW Mall Tour

This past weekend was the Pokemon Black and White tour at Santa Anita Mall here in Southern California. To celebrate the release there were stations set up throughout the mall with different Pokemon themed activities. Also, a big thank you to Ciel for the photos. I forgot my camera. u__u

The first order of business was to obtain a stamp card. You would collect stamps from different stations in the mall, one for each character, and once those were collected you could obtain a wristband to spin the prize wheel. We opted out of the wristband because the line was absolute insanity. It went outside the mall and around it. It also happened to be raining.

Ciel went back on Sunday and attempted to get a wristband for the prize wheel but they were all out of prize plush so she bought some instead. XD

I like how I showed up to Ciel's house in the morning to carpool and we were both wearing school girl themed outfits, haha. Yes, those are pokeballs in my hair. :D

On an unrelated note, last month I won a free gel manicure from Japan UP! magazine. The certificate was for one color or gradation so I got glitter sea foam green tips. I'm trying to save money right now so I didn't spend extra to have designs put on 'em. Next time! These are my natural nails with gel over them. My manicurist said they can last up to month if you take good care of them.

Rilakkuma Valentine's Day Event

Over the weekend was the Rilakkuma Valentine's Day event at JapanLA. The day included card making, secret passwords for delicious crepes and grilled cheese, and of course lots of adorable merchandise.

If attendees brought the LA Weekly ad and knew the secret password, "Rilakkuma Love" they were awarded with these precious Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma finger puppets.

Birthday Celebration @Round 1

This past Saturday I celebrated my birthday at Round 1. We were able to play a round of bowling, spend far too much money on crane games, take purikura, and play lots of arcade games. I had a fantastic time, thank you to everyone who made it!

Lastly, after four and a half hours of trying I managed to get Sunday Comic-Con tickets for J and I. The entire process made me rage. I don't understand why they can't find a ticket distributor whose servers can handle the capacity of people trying to buy tickets. J and I have missed two Comic Cons in a row now because of the messy hotel and badge systems. This year we just decided to go one day and instead of staying in the Gas Lamp quarter to stay near Sea World or the San Diego Zoo. Comic Con IS fun don't get me wrong but the system is broken and it's not even about comics anymore. ;; Oh well~~

Contact Lenses - Wear & Care

Wearing colored or circle lenses has become pretty common ground amongst the lolita, gyaru, and cosplay communities. I thought it would be helpful to put together a tutorial for those who are unfamiliar with wearing lenses.

I wear contacts daily for vision so I had to be sure that wherever I ordered from offered lenses in my prescription. Most websites do not require you to have a prescription to order. Simply state 0.00 as your Rx if requested to do so.

For this tutorial I will be using a pair of super circle black lenses from YesStyle. Lenses from YS are sold as single lenses so if you want a pair make sure to set quantity to 2. There are a variety of lens sellers, just to name a few:

Pinky Paradise
Honey Color
YesStyle

What you'll need:
-Lenses (duh)
-Lens case
-Lens solution, I use Opti-Free (CVS, Target, Rite Aid etc.)

The lenses come in glass viles with plastic/metal caps. To remove, first push up on the orange cap (may be be a diff. color for you) in the location indicated by the silver arrow.

You'll notice that the silver portion is actually connected to the orange cap. Carefully pull away the silver metal bits so you get something that looks like this:

Now remove the white rubber caps.

Fill your lens case with solution and place your lenses inside. Let soak overnight. You want to be sure your lenses have soaked in your own solution before wearing. Who knows how long they've been sitting in those glass viles.

Before wearing, make sure to wash your hands well. Your going to be handling items that go into your eye, you want to make sure they are free of any dust or particles. The tiniest speck of something can cause quite a bit of discomfort.

To wear:
1.] With your index finger "scoop" the contact out of the container and place into your palm. Cover lens with solution and lightly rub with your index finger. This will help to remove any debris that may have settled onto it overnight.

2.] After cleaning, again "scoop" the contact lens onto your index finger. Using your other hand spread open your eye by pushing up and down on the lash lines. Place the contact on your eye. It should release off your finger pretty easily, if not it's likely too dry. Simply re-wet with some solution.

3.] Repeat for other eye.

It should feel like there is nothing in your eye. If it does, repeat Step 1. If your eyes feel dry while wearing contacts you can purchase re-wetting drops. If they feel irritated, immediately remove the lenses and use eye drops (Visine etc.) as needed. It may take some time to adjust to wearing lenses, especially if they are prescription and you're used to glasses. You may experience minor headaches.

Always bring a case filled with some solution with you if you're wearing them out. Should the contacts start bothering you, you can remove them and store them for later. Lenses will dry out and do expire. Most lens labels will recommend not using for more than one year. This may be less depending on frequency of wear.

If you've never worn contacts but are a glasses wearer you need to visit your doctor before doing so. A contact lens prescription is NOT the same as a glasses prescription.

Also, I feel like this is pretty obvious but don't sleep in your lenses! Even if it's just a nap don't do it. When you wake the lenses will feel sticky and dry. It's a really uncomfortable feeling that I don't recommend. >.>;

Saturday the So. Cal. lolita community gathered at Griffith Park for a potluck lunch and swap meet. It was a huge success! Thanks to Oli for organizing another wonderful gathering.

There was a huge assortment of food and a TON of stuff for sale at the swap meet.

I went to the meet intending to only sell stuff but I couldn't resist the pink Star Night Theater socks and this leopard meta skirt. I've been pining after this skirt since it was released in the lucky packs last year. So happy to have it!

NYC Trip Part 3

Thanks for the comments on my previous two posts! Here's the rest of my photos from my NYC trip. The place I was looking most forward to visiting was the Nintendo World store in Rockefellar Center. The first floor is dedicated to Pokemon, DS demo stations and products and the second floor includes a Nintendo product display, Wii demos, and general Nintendo merchandise including t-shirts, plush, backpacks etc.

What are the odds that the day we visit there is a Pokemon fan gathering? Damn they are dedicated, it was like 25ºF that day!

NYC Trip Part 2

No trip to New York is complete without a stop in Times Square. I really wanted to visit the new Disney store and the four glorious floors of Forever 21 Times Square. They are conveniently located next to each other!

Pretty frozen fountain in Bryant Park. I was really surprised to see a fountain running during Winter.

Visited some of J's family in Brooklyn and walked along the Brooklyn Promenade. NYC is on the left. The Brooklyn Bridge is straight ahead. I would love to live in one of the homes on the right. What a view!

Catfish po'boy sammich and delicious fries! I love Creole/Cajun food. Ug, I require mad amounts of exercise after this trip, lol.

Reunited with my lovely best friend from high school, Frankie and went out for Korean food. My fave thing about Korean restaurants? All the appetizers!

Veggie bibimbap. I was pretty sick of fried food at this point in the trip, haha.

After dinner we enjoyed delicious pastries at Paris Baguette. They had a huge assortment of Parisian/Korean pastries and desserts. I just realized they have locations in California. I will definitely be visiting the local branch!

NYC Trip Part 1

J and I got back from New York City yesterday! We had a great time catching up with his family and reconnecting with old friends. I'm going to let the photos do most of the talking. I've split the trip up into three posts since I took quite a few photos. ^^

I was very excited that FIT's Japan Fashion Now exhibit was extended until April. Unfortunately pictures weren't allowed inside the exhibit. Here's me with the hugenormus Hangry and Angry wall instead.

Holiday Hot Mess Party

Tuesday night the lovely ladies of Diamond Gal Circle hosted Holiday Hot Mess. The event included a performance by band, Dig Jelly, a fashion show (that I got to be in!) with clothing from Star Couture, picture booth, giveaways and tons of fun!

I got there early on in the day to help set up and get my make up and hair did. It was wonderful hanging with the Diamond ladies, they are all so sweet~

The event took place at Royal/T in Culver City. It was super rainy that day and a Tuesday evening so I'm really glad to see so many people showed up!

After a bit of hassle with the post office, they said they left me a notice but they didn't, I got my Lovely Shoes order!

I felt like I was taking a pretty big risk with LS as you are required to make a minimum purchase of $100 excluding shipping. Another issue that concerned me was fit. I am women's U.S. size 10 (42 in China) and I could only order from their "plus size" shoe section. I'm just always weary of ordering a shoe size that is significantly larger than usual for that country.

Upon opening the box

All the items were wrapped inside plastic bags. The grey pumps had tissue protecting the bows and the light grey boots came in dust bags.

In terms of imperfections; they were minor including visible glue on the bottom of the purple pumps and small silver dots on the side of the engineer boots. I'm near positive I can get it off with nail polish remover.

Communication 5/5
Upon completing my order using the shopping cart and Paypal to pay I received a personal email (not automated) from one of LS reps. One of the items I had chosen was out of stock so I did have to choose a replacement and pay a few extra dollars but that wasn't a big deal.

Shipping 3/5
I was pretty shocked at how much shipping was. I won't say exact numbers but it was close to the actual cost of the shoes. Though it got here in a reasonable amount of time (a little under 3 weeks) I highly recommend you order with a friend or two if you're considering ordering from LS.

Quality 4/5
I'm pleased with the quality. The suede they used is really soft as is the pleather for the boots. I love the shiny insoles on the pumps as well.

Fit 3/5
Honestly I wasn't expecting to be able to fit in any of these shoes, lol. So the fact that both the purple pumps and the grey over the knee boots fit perfectly I'm a pretty happy camper. The four other pairs will need some stretching and wearing in but I'd say 2/6 ain't bad when I was expecting zilch, haha.

Yesterday I went to a very pleasant afternoon tea party with some fellow Southern California lolitas. We went to Paris in a Cup in Orange and it was so lovely! I had never been there before and now I can't wait to go back! The decorations, staff, and food were all excellent.

Sanrio 50th Anniversary - Small Gift L.A.

I hope those of you that celebrate Thanksgiving had a lovely holiday! I was thrilled to work the Sanrio event at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica a week ago. I worked almost everyday for about 10 hours. This past Monday I slept so hard, it was an exhausting event! Each day I would rotate to a different booth. They had Sanrio themed carnival games, crafting areas, photo ops, an art exhibit, food trucks, and of course a shop!

Some of the prizes given out at the Tuxedo Sam Bowtie Bounce.

Twin Stars Bean Bag Toss was kind of tricky. You had to get those star shaped bean bags into the holes on the board.

Tenorikuma Sugar Cube Toss (so precious!) required you to toss sugar cube bean bags into giant coffee cups.

Landry Lucky Ducks was a game of chance. Some of the ducks had colored dots on the bottom, choose one with a dot and win!

Chocopanda Dough Throw was super easy. Just toss a whiffle ball onto the pans and the color you landed on determined your prize.

My favorite area of the event was the "Matsuri" area. Made to mimic a Japanese summer festival there was goldfish scooping but instead of goldfish were tiny Sanrio figurines. There was also sand art, face paiting, and shrinky dink key chains! I made quite of few over the course of two weeks...

I only purchased one thing from the store, this adorable Keroppi cube plush keyring.

Lastly, the Sanrio staff gave all the temporary workers a goodie bag for helping with the event. So sweet! It included, socks, stickers, a sticker book, and lipgloss.

I had so much fun working this event. Everyone there was so pleasant. Thanks for making work fun! <3 Sanrio is in Miami this week celebrating. Make sure to check out the official website for tour dates!

Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Party

For the midnight release J and I attended a pre-party at the Harry Potter themed store, Whimsic Alley. In the back of the store they have a room that is a smaller replica of the great hall from the books. They had tables set up for each house and a huge selection of food and drink. They had a few perfomers there hosting the festivities including Harry, Hermoine, Luna Lovegood, and Bellatrix. J and I both dressed up, himself as a Ravenclaw student and myself as Luna Lovegood.

Pacific Media Expo 2010

Whew, I'm finally getting around to posting my photos from PMX! I was only able to attend for one day since I got hired to work the Sanrio event (post coming soon).

The Pasadena Hilton:
This year the event was held at a new location and it was just too cramped. The hallways were very small and it was difficult to find certain panels/rooms. It got especially congested when photographers would ask attendees to stop for photos. There was no elevator in the parking garage making it very difficult to carry my swap meet items up and down three flights of stairs. There was also a lack of trash cans which meant a lot of attendees just left their garbage wherever. Ick!

Swap Meet:
I was most looking forward to selling my unwanted Japan related merchandise at the swap meet. However, instead of putting the swap meet sellers in their own room the staff put us in the same room as the artist's alley. This meant the swap meet sellers had to wait for an artist alley vendor to clean up their space and leave before we could set up. This was super ridiculous. The artist alley was supposed to close at 8 for the swap meet but many of the artists remained at their tables throughout the swap meet. It was kind of chaotic trying to set up but Ciel and I managed to grab a table and sold quite a bit of merchandise. There was just barely any room to walk through the aisles and I was pretty paranoid of my items being stolen.

Starlight Fashion Festival:
Unfortunately another let down was the Starlight Fashion Festival. The event cost $10 on top of the regular PMX badge and was held Saturday evening. The only thing to do inside the event was play carnival games. The games of course cost tickets which were $1 each. I was a bit irritated that this is all the event was. At least provide some refreshments and seating for attendees to sit and chat. I know these events are expensive to put on but I definitely wouldn't have paid the $10 had I known it was just going to be 10 game booths.

Overall Feelings:
I want to like PMX. It has so much potential to be an amazing convention. I will say that I was very pleased to have both Innocent World and BTSSB attend and that the food trucks were a nice option for eats. The event in general though seems very rushed and disorganized. Announcements are always made at the last minute and it takes a very long time to get responses from their staff. I just hope future PMX events are better organized and take place at a different venue. Here's hoping. :)

Phew, I am spent. What an exhausting but fun weekend it has been! I had a blast at Long Beach Comic Con though! I attended Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I dressed up as Ms. Marvel. First thing I did was wait in line to meet one of my favorite artists, J. Scott Campbell. I purchased this Black Cat print for him to sign. He said he liked my costume and fabric choices. :3

Mickey's Halloween Party 2010

Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland was so much fun! J and I hurried to the park after work Friday evening to get there when the gates opened for event guests at 7. The park closes to "regular" park attendees at 7 p.m. for the event. I felt very V.I.P., haha.

It was so much fun seeing all the different costumes, I loved all the families who dressed to the same theme including one family who were all dressed as characters from Toy Story. I wish I had grabbed a pic!

J dressed as Zorro and I went as a girl version of Woody from Toy Story. Everyone thought I was Jessie. ; ; I figured that was going to happen since I'm a girl but c'mon people, Jessie has red hair, a red hat, and chaps!

The castle's lighting changed periodically throughout the night. There was also a special Halloween fireworks show and a parade!

Ciel and her b/f got there so I finally had my Buzz! Her dress had glow and the dark stars all over it, so cute. *__*

We had to stop at my favorite candy shop in the park located in Critter Country. They always have the most adorable candy apples, just look at that Minnie witch!

We got so much candy! There are candy stations set up all over the park. I felt like a kid again. XD *stomach ache*

I wish I could afford to go again this year. Four hours just isn't enough! We did however manage to get on a lot of rides in such a short amount of time. The only attraction we found with a significant wait time was Space Mountain. Everything else was under 10 minutes. I believe next weekend is the last chance to go to the event this year. If you can, I highly recommend you attend.

Megamind World Record event

Last Saturday, to promote the new animated feature Megamind, Dreamworks asked those in the Los Angeles with superhero costumes to meet at the Nokia Theater. They wanted to break the world record for most costumed superheroes in one place. Will Ferrell who is the voice of Megamind was in attendance and helped to announce the results. It was a great turnout and a record-breaking (literally!) 1,580 people in costume showed up. I was one of them!

I dressed up Ms. Marvel. I love this costume and character so much. She's one of the New Avengers from Marvel comics.

Harry Potter! I wanted to steal his Hedwig. :3

Kato! This was a character played by Bruce Lee in the T.V. series The Green Hornet in the late 1960s.

A close group of us got together recently to celebrate my boyfriend J's birthday. We enjoyed a super tasty dinner at B.J.'s Restaurant and Brewery. I've been wanting to order the "Pizookie" for J for a while now. If you love cookies and ice cream this is the dessert for you. I told the waiter to bring us one that was large enough for 6 people, I swear he brought us one enough for 10.

I'm so glad it's finally October! My Woody costume is coming along nicely so far. I can't wait to be finished!

Ojai Pirate Faire

Most of you are probably familiar with Renaissance faires but how about a Pirate Faire? J and I trekked out to Ojai, California (about 1.5 hours from L.A.) to attend the Gold Coast Pirate Festival. The faire was set up near a campground bordering Lake Casitas which made for a really pleasant location.

No festival would be complete without proper attire. J and I both rocked the same outfits from the Renaissance Faire back in May but with each event we're adding more accessories.

Do I look like I fit in? I hope! Faire attendees can be serious about their garb.

Attempting my best Tyra Banks "SMIZE". Ug, my hair totally fell flat in the 90º heat. Oh well, a pirate's life ain't glamorous!

Lunch consisted of not-so-low calorie coconut shrimp and chips with my stein of rum and punch. Delish!

No pirate festival would be complete without cannons! No, the photo isn't blurry that's cannon smoke. For the record it was super loud, I think I jumped as each cannon was shot off.

Many of the picnic tables had pirate's treasure on them! The gun is a replica and belongs to Ciel. Thanks for letting me borrow it! I'm not giving it back. :P

Sweet Streets II - Fashion Show & Exhibit

What an amazing event! I had so much fun last night at the Sweet Streets II/6% DOKIDOKI event. I attended with Ciel and her boyfriend and J. We made sure to get there early so we would have first dibs on the 6% store and have a good view of the fashion show. I'm certainly glad we did. It was packed with people! Very well dressed/coordinated people. It was so fun admiring everyone's outfits.

I feel like my headgear needed more oomph so I created the "Viva las Vegas" headpiece out of playing cards and a plastic mardi gras necklace.

The fashion show was really cute. Instead of a runway walk the models danced and were super playful down the runway. At the finale they pulled people onto the catwalk with them to boogie down.

I am so, so happy I got the star brooches in not one but two colors! I was really pining for the gold one but I'm happy with my two pink ones. ^^ Also, hello adorable cheese-it like cookie necklace!

What better way to end the evening then midnight purikura at Cue!.

Sweet Streets II - Model Contest

I found out a few weeks ago that I was a finalist in the 6%DOKIDOKI model contest as part of the Sweet Streets II gallery exhibition. This past Thursday evening I had my interview with the 6%DOKIDOKI staff and although I didn't make it, it was still an honor to have been chosen as a finalist. I won't say who was chosen since tonight the winners will be revealed to the public. I will however share some pictures of my outfit and the other contestants.

It was wonderful meeting Sebastian Masuda (the owner) and the models Yuka and Vanii. All the contestants and everyone at 6%DOKIDOKI were super pleasant to be around. I hope you all will come this evening and Sunday to view the exhibit and buy goodies from the pop up shop!

I was given a goodie bag for participating which included a Sweet Streets II compliation CD and 6%DOKIDOKI stickers and button. I will proudly rock that tonight!

Los Angeles Zoo

J and I made our way out to Griffith Park today to visit the Los Angeles Zoo. They've been doing a hefty amount of remodeling and reconstruction for the past few years so there's always a new exhibit to view everytime we go.

I was super happy to see the usual one lone meerkat now has buddies! On a previous trip he was the only one in his enclosure. They look really hot though apparent by their positions in the shade, lol.

Eating my favorite "theme park" snack, Dippin' Dots! It's ice cream in little tiny pearl form. It's totally gimmicky and hella expensive at $4 a package but I can't resist.

Male lion looking majestic. We didn't stay near his enclosure long cause neither J nor I could handle the people whistling and yelling "Look over here!" at the lions. They are wild animals people, not dogs.

A bongo! I love that it's tongue is out. xD

Southern California Lolita Meet up!

The very lovely Oli organized a lolita picnic meet up at Santa Monica beach. What a turn out! Everyone brought tasty treats to share. It was my first lolita meet up so I was pretty nervous but all the girls were so sweet. I'm so glad to have met some of you. A big thank you to all the ladies who brought prizes for the games. I scored an adorable teddy bear headbow and pair of kitty earrings from Pink Zombies. What a treat, thank you!

Rilakkuma Weekend, comics, and kittens oh my!

Last weekend J and myself attended the Rilakkuma weekend event at Japan LA. I've never seen so many Rilakkuma items! I resisted the urge to buy one of everything and instead took advantage of the free manicures. The manicurist offered up precious deco of Rilakkuma and friends and together we came up with this:

I've been reading lots of comics lately. They make for great reading during my breaks at work. I picked up the first four volumes of Scott Pilgrim. They are hilarious! I loved the movie as well. The critics are haters, that movie was amazing. Video games, romance, action, comedy, really what more could you ask for in a movie? A+

Aaaand the most exciting news of all; we adopted another kitty! We feel like Latte has been restless lately which we attribute to us working long hours. We decided it would be best to get her a buddy. So meet the newest member of our family, Tango! She's named after Mega Man's cat. Yah, we're nerds.

Anime Expo 2010 Cosplay

I'm finally getting around to posting my Anime Expo 2010 cosplay photos. I cosplayed on Thursday and Friday. Ciel and I both cosplayed from Vocaloid. Myself as Luka Megurine and Ciel as Rin. We both dressed as outfits from the song, Sandplay - Singing of the Dragon.

I was supposed to have Fang from Final Fantasy XIII finished by Friday but time just got away from me. I was pretty bummed about not being able to finish but Ciel swooped in and saved the day. She had a Ranka Lee costume from Macross Frontier that she had never worn. I was so lucky it fit! Just barely too, I had fantastic posture all day thanks to the corseted waist, lol. Though I was probably the tallest Ranka Lee ever, I had so much fun acting like an adorable 15 year old all day. XD

New kicks and mini-update

Hello everyone! I'm sorry for the lack of updates, I have been working six day work weeks for past month now and I'm just too exhausted to do much other than sit, watch a movie, and relax. I haven't even made it out to see Inception yet. It's been hellish trying not to have it spoiled for me. -.-; I have also been consumed with trying to get all the items from the new piyo catchers on Poupee Girl. NINJA OUTFIT. NEED.

I do have some exciting news to share! I will be hosting my first blog giveaway very soon! I'm waiting for a couple of products to arrive in the mail and then I'll post it up. My blog is still very new so I really appreciate all 13 of you (XD;) for giving my blog a chance!

One thing I have been up to is buying more goodies online. I have no restraint, ug. ;_; However, these were something I NEEDED. I have been wearing black, Chuck Taylor converse sneakers since junior high. I've gone through about four or five pairs. When my most recent pair gave out I thought it would be a good time for some change. Thing is, I've been looking for months! I bought some high-top converse-like sneakers from Forever 21 that fell apart in a week. The soles came unglued from the shoe and the zipper broke. Every time I came across another pair I liked they didn't have my size. It's crazy to me that so many women are a size 10 around my neighborhood. Stores are always, always out of 10s.

So finally, when I checked out Shiek recently they were having amazing deals on practically every pair of sneakers in their online store. So what did I do? I bought not one but two pairs of FABULOUS new sneakers. Both pairs are by Pastry. Run DMC's daughters, Angela and Vanessa Simmons started the line and they have some really unique/cool designs. I love all the little details and colors they use. You can shop on Pastry's website or at Shiek. I've never ordered from Pastry directly so I can't vouch for their credibility. Shiek however is super easy to work with. When they didn't have my size in their warehouse they had it shipped from one of their retail stores. They also include a free pair of socks with every order.

Fierce new shoes

One of my favorite places to shop is Nordstrom Rack. Yes, the big fancy department store is lovely and don't get me wrong I love going there too but at Nordstrom Rack I always find amazing bargains. In fact, I think I prefer "the Rack" over the original. Anyhow! I haven't treated myself to any fancy shoes in far too long. I was so excited to find not one but two pairs of gorgeous shoes!

The red bow pair is from Harajuku Lovers and the leopard pumps are by who else but Betsey Johnson. <3 I also bought my first item from L.A.M.B. ever. This fantastic wallet, which funnily enough matches my blog! XD

Poupee Girl needs to hurry up and post the Matsuri event items already. I want a new yukata! I am thrilled to see the kitchen catcher items though. I am so sad I didn't buy more at last year's cooking event.

Lazy Sundays

I had to work overtime this Saturday so I only got a one day weekend. The only thing I wanted to do Sunday was spend a nice afternoon enjoying lunch somewhere pleasant and taking it easy. Today we took a walk near Venice beach and ate at Lemonade.

We were very pleased to find out they serve many varieties of lemonade! I had an Arnold Palmer (1/2 lemonade 1/2 iced tea) and J enjoyed kiwi strawberry lemonade. Both were delish! Lemonade offers sandwiches, a huge array of side dishes/salads and stews. I would definitely go back, the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff was very nice.

So remember how I mentioned I was baking a cake for 4th of July? Well, here's the results:

I set the cake down on the ottoman you see there for two minutes while J and I put our shoes on. I was on the phone with Ciel telling her we were on our way to her house when "OMG LATTE JUST JUMPED INTO THE CAKE!" came yelling out of my mouth. Unbelievable, Latte (our kitty) unaware I guess that there was a cake on the ottoman took a flying leap into my beautiful cake. D: There was frosting and cake EVERYWHERE. On the floor, couch, wall, and of course all over the cat. For the record, frosting is annoying as haaaale to wipe up.

We still managed to enjoy the cake despite it's horrible appearance. We just ate around the holes in the middle from Latte's feet...lol.

Cherry Berry Bunny

I hope you all don't mind if I post my Anime Expo photos out of order. I'm waiting on the photos from our photo sessions on Thursday and Friday. In the meantime, I thought I would share my Saturday outfit. This was my first time wearing sweet lolita and I had such a fantastic time! Our morning began with what else? A run to Starbucks where I proceeded to order a passion tea lemonade because well, it's pink! :3

Graduation!

This week was my college graduation! I'm so thrilled to be done with school. I feel kind of old actually, I see so many bloggers graduating from high school. ^^;

Man, graduation gowns are so unflattering. I had to pay $48 for the gown, cap, and tassle. Absolutely ridiculous. I totally didn't think to borrow one from a friend but I hope you all will consider that when you graduate from wherever. It seems so wasteful for students to keep buying these cheap, hot gowns to wear for four hours only to dump them in the trash afterward.

After the ceremony we had a early dinner at The Grande Orange which was delightful! I had -the- best red velvet cake I have ever had. I meant to ask them if they ordered it from a bakery or if it was made in house. I have to go back for some!

I am so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends who surprised me with some lovely gifts! So thrilled to receive a new bikini just in time for summer!

I have been wanting a "cute" travel contact lense set for ages now. Ciel is so wonderful to remember!

I can't believe Anime Expo is just over a week away. I've been working pretty frantically on my Fang costume. Here's what $20 worth of pipe from Home Depot looks like. It'll eventually look like a polearm! I hope...

Lunch at Royal/T

I went to lunch with my lovely friend Miss. E at Royal/T yesterday. If you're ever in the Los Angeles area I highly recommend you make a trip to it. All the waitresses wear adorable maid uniforms, the food/tea is delicious, and they have a cute shop and gallery space to boot!

I ordered the Kabocha Squash Ravioli:

Both were so delicious! We also ordered a pot of the Royal Milk tea which is a must if you go there. The flavor is perfectly light and not too sweet. After lunch we perrused the fantastic sales at H&M and Forever 21 where I found my boots for Fang cosplay! LOL I also bought a dress for graduation tomorrow for $5!

I got my hair redyed Friday; there's nothing like freshly dyed hair. So vibrant! I had a pretty casual outfit yesterday which I snapped shots of in the Forever 21 dressing room:

Bodyline Order

I was a bit irritated that this order was shipped in a plastic bag with no padding. The shoes were just lose in the bag. Thankfully they weren't scratched or scuffed. The petticoat was folded in a plastic bag as was the strawberry bag.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the zipper pull had a strawberry bell on it! The bag is larger than I expected which I'm pleased with since I carry so much. xD;

Shoes 154:

These shoes have the non-shiny finish. I am a U.S. women's size 10 shoe. I ordered a size 27. These fit surprisingly well. I've heard that Bodyline's shoe sizing can be inconsistent but these fit very well. They could use a little cushioning but that's nothing an insole couldn't fix.

ACC 030 Petticoat:
I didn't grab a picture of the petticoat because that's boring! It gives just the right amount of poof underneathe my Cherry Berry JSK. For $37 the price can't be beat. I will definitely be buying the black one on my next order.

Electronic Entertainment Expo 2010

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend this week's E3 convention in Los Angeles. For those of you that don't know, E3 is an industry only event where video game publishers and developers show off what they've been working on recently. Some very exciting announcements were made including the Nintendo 3DS, a new Zelda title, and Microsoft's Kinect among many others.

I unfortunately didn't get to play that many games since the lines were ridiculously long. The line to play the new Nintendo 3DS console was three hours! I spent most of my time taking pictures and catching up with old friends.

THQ had one of my favorite booths. This is my "Rawr I'm in a mech" face.

This game from Natsume called Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove was not only adorable but super fun! It's a rhythm game very similar to Elite Beat Agents. It's supposed to come out sometime in the Fall. I will definitely be picking it up.

Saucy All Points Bulletin (APB) hotties. I played the beta for this last weekend. Not bad, if you're into Grand Theft Auto at all you'll likely enjoy this. It's an MMO set in a fictional NYC-like city where there's a war between the Enforcers (vigilantes) and criminals. The character creator is the most in-depth and detailed of any I've seen. Really impressive.

Off to fight zombies Frank West (Dead Rising 2) style!

The swag I collected. You can definitely tell the economy has hit the marketing/promotions budgets. I used to come home with bags of this stuff. I would like to give a shout out to the video game accessories company Exspect. The very nice gentlemen at this booth offloaded a bunch of their merchandise onto my friends and I. They have a pretty stylish lineup of accessories actually! The horse plush is from Harvest Moon. :3

I made my first purchase from Bodyline yesterday. I am so grateful I was able to find some lolita shoes in a US size 10. I have behemoth feet. >.<;

I have my college graduation ceremony next week, so excited!

Fanime Part 3 - Sunday

Sunday was our last day at Fanime. *sad face* We made sure to pack all our stuff the evening before so we could take full advantage of the few hours we'd have Sunday morning/early afternoon. I think I was most excited for this day. It was my first time wearing a full gothic lolita emsemble. Not only that but we would be shopping at the Fantaisies dans le Monde des Rêves Magical Boutique!

We pranced around the dealer's hall looking for deals since vendors typically discount their wares toward the end of the con. I scored a fantastic deal on a Shadaloo Cammy figure down from $90 to $35!

The most exciting purchase of the whole con for me though was buying my first brand lolita dress. It was brand new with tags and just spoke to me, lol. I don't exactly have a "dream" print I desire to own but this Cherry Berry Bunny Jumperskirt just might be it. It came with the matching head bow as well. Now to just find the socks! Please, if you know someone selling them in pink or white send them my way. ^-^

After making a final round of the Artist's Alley and Dealer's Hall we headed over to The Fairmont Hotel to purchase more lolita goodies. I was mostly excited to buy plastic jewelry from Angelic Pretty. I ended up purchasing a matching bangle and ring and an adorable strawberry ring that matches my new jumperskirt!

Fanime Part 2 - Saturday

Our morning started off with a nutritious breakfast of peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches, lol. I don't think I've had pb&j for over five years. Lemme tell yah, it was delish!

We left the room around 12:30 p.m. in our Vocaloid costumes. The three of us cosplayed from the song, Sandplay - Singing of the Dragon.

We tried to get into the maid cafe for lunch but the line was crazy long. I would have loved to have worked as one of the maids, their uniforms were so cute!

We wandered around the exhibit hall and artist's alley where we proceeded to buy a handful of accessories from Minty Mix's booth. I totally forgot to take a picture of the table. Instead have a pic of an amazing booth that was selling retro anime stuff. There was a girl, probably no older than eight oogling all the Sailor Moon items. It made me happy to know that Sailor Moon is -still- popular among young girls.

After being hot and feeling the pain of being in heels all day we decided to head back to the hotel and change. After which we took a walk around downtown San Jose. I must say, what a pleasant, clean city it is! We went to Walgreens where I proceeded to buy nail polish I don't need and oogle at all the different Pringles chips they had! WTF, I have never seen Layer Dip flavor or honey mustard, or whole grain! AHHHH! LOL CHIPS.

We found a Japanese restaurant for dinner which I must say was totally mediocre. The service was super slow, I had to ASK for our miso soup which came midway through our meal, tables were piled (yes, piled) with dirty dishes. It was totally unappetizing. The food was ok, but I certainly wouldn't go back for it. They seemed totally overwhelmed and unprepared for the Fanime crowd. I did pity one waitress who did seem to be trying but her coworker just didn't seem to care, poor thing. Our evening ended with watching Red Dead Redemption cutscenes on TV, lol.

Fanime Part 1 - Friday

Whew, what a blast Fanime was! I intended to get this post up earlier but I've been suffering from a pretty severe sunburn. I hadn't laid out in the sun for a long, long time and I am burnt to a crisp. So much so that I can barely stand!

I attended Fanime with Ciel and our friend S (name kept private). We left Los Angeles around 8 a.m. Friday morning and after getting a bit turned around we finally rolled into San Jose at around 2:30 p.m. It's quite a long drive but the company was good so it made it bearable. ^-^

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel right across the street from the convention center. What a pleasant surprise the hotel turned out to be! The staff was super accommodating and our room was quite nice. We had a view of Adobe Corporate, OH YEAH. Free copy of CS5 kplzthx.

Ciel and I were signed up to sell stuff at the Swap Meet later in the evening so we wanted to park at the convention center to transport our boxes. No such luck. The lot was already full! Thankfully there was an adjacent lot and thank goodness I brought my dolly (wheel thingy for moving heavy crap). We had a bunch of magazines and manga which made for very heavy lifting.

We ran into the Vocaloid gathering upon getting our badges. Too bad the gathering wasn't Saturday. We were too exhausted to get into our Vocaloid cosplays after being up since 6 a.m.

Robot Unicorn Attack!

After waiting in line for about a hour we were finally let into the Swap Meet. As grateful as I am that we were allowed to sell our stuff sitting on hard concrete for four hours isn't fun. Our legs and knees were aching like crazy. At PMX we were given two chairs and a table. However, Fanime had 100+ people signed up for their swap meet. Both Ciel and I managed to sell quite of bit of stuff. I will say we were two of the cheaper sellers. Some people were charging ridiculous prices and a lot of them went home with most of the stuff they came with.

I purchased a pair of black, Metamorphose socks for $20 so I was a happy camper. I had spent the weeks prior to Fanime trying to get my hands on some black, lace brand socks but no luck so I was thrilled to find these before my lolita outfit on Sunday!

Though the swap meet didn't end until 1 a.m. we took off at 11:30. We were hungry, tired and needed to rest up for cosplay Saturday morning! I actually starting losing my voice at this point. I ended up having this weird, raspy voice by the end of the con, lol. Ciel was gracious enough to bring some quick dinner options with her to the convention. Get this, we actually made delicious Japanese curry in our room! Onto Saturday!

So. California Renaissance Pleasure Faire 2010

Greetings lords and ladies! After months of anticipation and searching high and low for my faire garb, I attended the Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire. I had such a great time. I wish I was able to attend more than one day but alas conflicting schedules and cost prevented it. For weeks I perused Ebay, thrift stores, and online shops for my garb (outfit) and this is the ensemble I put together. A mix of all three of the above with some of my mother's costume jewelry included. I purchased a plain felt hat and added feathers, a band, brooch, and lace. I was going for a privateer/wench combo, haha.

Lunch time!

One of the best parts of the faire 'tis be the food! We feasted on turkey legs, corn on the cob, pickles, hot pretzels, and more hard cider and ale then I care to remember, haha. Which for the record, I drank from a period appropriate tankard thank-you-very-much.

I shopped around a bit and purchased a mug strap for my belt (annoying to carry around) and a leather pouch to carry my not so period appropriate credit card and cell phone. If you weren't able to find an outfit before you got to the faire not to worry there are plenty of merchants hawking their wares. Do be warned though, most of these items are hand made and one of a kind so you will be shelling out a hearty chunk of coin.

We sat down for two shows, a lovely bellydancing troupe and Broon who is a terrific comedian/magician/juggler combo. hah! He travels around to different faires so if he makes it to your local event be sure to check him out!

I recently received a check for wages owed from two years ago (yikes) so I decided to treat myself to a few things. Forever 21 never ceases to disappoint me in the accessory department. I picked up a rhinestone fish bone necklace, two finger ring (fantastic!), and a silver swan ring.

Over at T.J. Maxx I grabbed a 6-pack of Betsey Johnson socks and some super soft, grey leggings with a rhinestone fleur de lis. I'm such a sucker for rhinestones and studs. Latte proceeded to plop down on top of them as I attempted to grab a photo. Who could resist this face?
